China PV plant largest in the world

Golmud Solar park, a photovoltaic power station commissioned on Oct 29, 2011 and operated by Huanghe Hydropower in China became largest solar farm in the world. Previous record holder was Sarnia Photovoltaic Power Plant in Canada, with a total installed capacity of 97 MW.

At the current rate of development in the solar sector, Golmund will not hold the title of largest PV plant for long. There are solar parks currently under construction that will challenge the record. Two Californian plants, Desert Sunlight Project of Riverside County and Topaz Solar Farm of San Luis Obispo County target both capacities of 550 MW. Both will employ thin-film solar photovoltaic modules produced by First Solar.

A slightly smaller project, Blythe Solar Power, of 500 MW, is also under construction in Riverside County, California.
